BMW Films started back in 2001 with Clive Owen staring in a series called "The Hire", and it was a brilliant branded marketing campaign that used high profile actors (Clive Owen, Stellan Skarsgård, Adriana Lima, Madonna), as well as famous directors (Tony Scott, Joe Carnahan, Wong Kar-wai, Ang Lee). Now, the series is back, and the short film "The Calm"  is out. Its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival is this week, but you can see it here.

There's no background on the players in the film, who they're supposed to be and exactly what's going on, but that's not even the point. The star of the show is the new all-electric BMW i7 M70i, the quickest BMW ever with its 0-60 sprint in 3.5 seconds. You get to see the car and its tremendous performance, deep in-car tech set, and opulent luxury. There's kicking, punching, a very hard purse, and baddies on electric motorcycles. Every other detail is ancillary, but they do get a nice cast.

The leading role is occupied by French actress Pom Klementieff who plays Mantis from "Guardians of the Galaxy" and Uma Thurman from "Kill Bill" and "Beautiful Girls. Sam Hargrave, who's directorial debut was the awesome Netflix movie "Extraction" with Chris Hemsworth. Even the soundtrack composer is famous, none other than Hans Zimmer, who's famous for Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy soundtrack.

The i7 M70 xDrive will show off its silent power and bold styling at Italy's Lake Como for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023  (May 19-21) at the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este. The BMW i7 M70 churns out a substantial 650 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque, the most powerful BMW 7 Series ever built. The two-tone paint job even does a good job of hiding the rather polarizing front fascia. "The Calm" premieres at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17th and online, as well.
